Can you build a brand in 2022 without social media?

Starting Thursday, September 22nd, we’ll be off social for 21days. 

Instead, we will dive into a dozen other ways to grow our audience and promote our work, and hopefully - even hit some sales goals.

Why do we want to go off social media? 

  • We’re alarmed about the ethics of the companies behind the channels, on issues of privacy and mental health

  • We’re wondering… are we on social because it’s the norm, or is it effective to grow our audience?

  • It is increasingly difficult to stand out as a small brand 

  • So many channels, so little time ..☹️

  • Algorithms have killed organic reach, so without budget, you are up against big odds

  • We’re tenants on rented land - it’s a huge investment of time to build an audience, but you can’t take it with you elsewhere

Which made us wonder…

Can we even build brands without social media in 2022? 

We will only find out if we try. So we thought, why not have fun with it and do this with all of you?

This challenge is definitely for you if:

  • You use social media but have moments where you question it

  • You have a product/service you want to promote 

  • You have 3+ hours a week (during the challenge) to meet up with the group and run your experiments

  • You are shy and you could use a challenge to get out of your comfort zone

  • You never prioritize sales and could use some external motivation to finally do it

At the end of the 21 days, you will have:

🕵️ explored two (new) channels to grow your audience 

✨ felt better about your brand-building methods

🎯 Hit a sales goal you set yourself, or: learned lessons that you can build on

More importantly, this is about building a bigger habit of setting clear business goals for yourself, running experiments to find other channels that might work for you, and basing decisions on data rather than gut feeling. 

What will the challenge look like?

  • We have a kick-off event on 22nd September. Set your goals, get inspired by alternatives to social media, and pick two potential channels.  

  • You run your experiment.

  • We host standup meetings on day 7, and day 14 of the challenge to check in, share challenges, and report on progress

  • The challenge finale is on day 21: we share our progress towards our goals, and lessons learned.
