Course Content

Module 1: Welcome to the tribe

Dive into the course structure, get your canvas, and get set up for success.

Module 2: Becoming a Brand Thinker

We discuss the basics of brand thinking, why it’s important to think like a brand strategist and the story behind the Brand Thinking Canvas, and we set goals for our practice as a facilitator.

Module 3: Getting familiar with the canvas

Anne explains how the canvas is structured, and how it represents the anatomy of a strong brand. We discuss when and how you can use the canvas, and offer a glossary of terms. We close the module with a quiz to check your understanding of the terms we use on the canvas.

Module 4: Create a brand case study

We learn from an existing brand how the canvas structure works. We look at a case study (Airbnb) and you will create your own.

Module 5: Prepare for your first session

To master facilitation, you need practice. Let’s find a pilot client and learn about prepping for your first workshop – online or offline.

Module 6: Running a basic workshop

We unpack the workshop process, from warming up your brand-thinking brain, to the order in which to work through the canvas, and how to close a session with clear action points. As an assignment, you will pilot your first workshop.

Module 7: Develop your facilitation skills

We discuss the difference between the role of consultant and facilitator, and which skills you need to develop. What does a bad facilitator do? What does a good facilitator do? We share tips on improving outcomes and troubleshoot some difficult scenarios.

Module 8: Advanced facilitation

We share online facilitation tips and group facilitation tips on how to use the canvas in higher education, and then offer more facilitation tips and resources.

Module 9: Design your own co-creation process

Tools don’t build brands: people do. Different brand professionals use our tools in different ways. What works for you? You will work on designing your own co-creation process.

Module 10: Further learning

We invite you to share your journey, and give you more brand inspiration and resources for the road.

Who is it for?

This course is developed for curious people with a high affinity for branding: business minds, creatives, brand/marketing strategists and communication specialists, educators, coaches and facilitators who want to use the Brand Thinking Canvas in their own, entirely unique practices. Though a degree in branding, business or marketing is a lovely piece of paper to have, we created this course to suit self-starters and people who attended the school of life. Most of all, this course is for people willing to learn, pilot, test, fail, improve, cheer, share and grow.

Why the course works

Let’s start with a confession: we don’t like online courses. Yes, they are convenient, but who’s ever actually finished one? Here’s what we’ve done to ensure this online course beats the industry-standard dropout rates.

Tried and tested

We spent two years and ran four six-month programmes with 48 brand professionals across the world, to find out what content and assignments they needed to feel empowered to work with our tools. We then created a beta version of the online course and ran a beta-test with a new set of brand professionals.

Self-paced

The life of a brand professional is full of deadlines. Take the course at your own pace, whenever you need it, in your own timezone.

Immediacy

You can put your learnings directly to use in your daily work as a brand professional, whether you are a creative, coach or strategist. The assignments are created to be of immediate use.

Support

Expand ‘Team You’ with dozens of other brand professionals using our tools. Our learning platform is not an empty online forum, but is embedded in an active community of practitioners.

The story behind the brand thinking canvas

Anne Miltenburg, a Dutch award-winning designer and brand developer, worked in the field of branding for a decade. First as a designer, then as a strategist, and finally as a creative director, at famed agencies Studio Dumbar, Lava and Interbrand.

She became increasingly frustrated with the consultancy format, and the gap between strategy and creativity, theory and implementation.

Anne started experimenting with different co-creation processes and self-made models in 2011, resulting in the Brand Thinking Canvas in 2013, the establishment of educational organization Brand The Change in 2014, and the full brand development process documented in the book ‘Brand The Change’ in 2015.

She has worked with over 1,600 changemaking entrepreneurs to build stronger brands using her own tools, and swears by them to this day. She is opening up all her knowledge of the canvas and how you can use it in your own brand development process, in this online course.
