For years we've witnessed green washing, woke washing, purpose washing, and all kinds of moral laundry being done in public view.
We could call the people responsible out, but instead, could we call brand professionals in to a more ethical way of working?
I've always thought of pledges and codes as ineffective, as they don't reach or interest the people who they are truly intended for. We could probably get thousands of independent creatives to sign an ethical branding code of conduct, but it's unlikely the head of brand at KLM or Shell would come on board.
Yet where can professionals of all calibers find inspiration and guidance if they wanted to truly make a difference through their work?
A code of conduct could help set a shared standard. It’s both impossible and unavoidable.
That's why this May, we're asking ourselves: what might an Ethical Branding Code of Conduct look like?
We will put a draft in front of the community for debate.
Join us so we can learn from your perspective. Co-create an ethical benchmark, and let’s go on a journey together to find moral clarity.
ABOUT THIS EVENT
This hangout is part of our series of free monthly community hangouts, open to all. Each month, we'll feature a new theme: a think tank, debate, skillshare, hot seat session, brand jam or fireside chat. You'll meet Anne, Wanjiru and the other community members, and we make sure you leave with at least one great connection, new skills or a bit of knowledge or get an answer to a question you've been spinning your wheels on. Karibu, welcome!
