If we want to make real change happen, we need to get people on board.
A strong base of supporters is invaluable - people who not only adopt our ideas, products or services, but who help us make them better, and who help to spread the word.
But how do you get there? It’s a daunting prospect, especially if you are starting from scratch.
When we reframe this challenge as community building, a whole new world of possibility opens up. Now we are thinking about relationships, and how we can truly connect with others.
Brand thinking can help in community building, and in turn, community building supports the brand.
Let’s learn how we can build communities around our idea for change, and stronger brands for our communities.
This month, we’re talking to Laurence McCahill. Laurence is the co-founder of The Happy Startup School, where he supports a new breed of entrepreneur to build a business that does good, makes money and makes them happy. Anne develops brands for change with clients.
Both their companies, The Happy Startup School and Brand The Change, are community-driven brands.
Together Laurence and Anne will unpack the power of community building and brand building.
What do we want to answer?
How do you start building community around your idea?
What are some of the practical ways that people are doing this?
Can companies ‘own’ communities?
What brands do community really well? Which brands get it wrong?
Are there downsides to taking the community-driven approach?
Where do we go to dive deeper?
If you or someone you know are looking to learn more about community building are interested in learning more about brand community building from two practitioners who walk the talk every day, join us!
We will have plenty of time for Q&A and we welcome plus ones.

ABOUT THIS EVENT
This hangout is part of our series of free monthly community hangouts, open to all. Each month, we'll feature a new theme: a think tank, debate, skillshare, hot seat session, brand jam or fireside chat. You'll meet Anne, Wanjiru and the other community members, and we make sure you leave with at least one great connection, new skills or a bit of knowledge or get an answer to a question you've been spinning your wheels on. Karibu, welcome!
